Gehraiyaan is a romantic drama film that released on Amazon Prime on February 11, 2022. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa in the lead roles. The film is directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Dharma Productions. The film revolves around the complicated relationships and emotions of four urban youths who are struggling with their own issues.  Gehraiyaan Budget

According to various sources, Gehraiyaan had a budget of 70 crores all-inclusive, which is much higher than Shakun Batra's previous film Kapoor and Sons, which had a budget of 28 crores. The film also paid a hefty salary of 20 crores to Deepika Padukone, who is one of the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood. The film was sold to Amazon Prime for 100 crores, giving a table profit of 30 crores to Dharma Productions. However, this does not mean that the film is a hit, as it depends on how many people watch it on the OTT platform.

 Gehraiyaan OTT Views

One of the main criteria to judge the Gehraiyaan hit or flop status is the OTT views that it receives in the first 24 hours of its release. According to reports, Gehraiyaan has collected only 7 lakh views in its first day on Amazon Prime, which is very disappointing and lower than the benchmark of 1 million or 10 lakh views that ensures that a movie is a hit on OTT. Amazon Prime has 2 crore paid subscribers in India as of February 2022 and has paid a huge amount for this movie. The performance of the movie is below expectation for the cost paid.

Gehraiyaan has now reached 8.5 lakh views in 48 hours, which is still very low for a star-studded movie like this. For comparison, Laxmii, which released on Hotstar in 2020, had 37 lakh views in its first day and 2 years later, the number of subscribers has doubled on Amazon Prime in India.

 Gehraiyaan Box Office Collection

Since Gehraiyaan is an OTT release, it does not have a theatrical box office collection. However, if we assume that it would have released in theatres with an average occupancy of 50%, then it would have earned around 10 crores on its opening day and around 25 crores in its first weekend. This would have been a decent collection for a niche film like this, but not enough to recover its high budget.

Gehraiyaan is a film that tries to explore the complex emotions and relationships of today's urban youth who are dealing with their own problems and insecurities. The film focuses on the character of Alisha Khanna (Deepika Padukone), who is an app developer who has a troubled childhood and a dysfunctional relationship with her boyfriend Karan (Dhairya Karwa). She finds solace in Zain Siddiqui (Siddhant Chaturvedi), who is also unhappy with his girlfriend Tia Khanna (Ananya Pandey), who happens to be Alisha's cousin. The film shows how Alisha and Zain get attracted to each other despite being committed to other people and how their actions affect their loved ones.

The film has some good performances by the lead actors, especially Deepika Padukone, who portrays the emotional turmoil of Alisha with conviction. Siddhant Chaturvedi also impresses with his charm and charisma as Zain. Ananya Pandey and Dhairya Karwa have less screen time and less impact on the story. The film also features veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor in supporting roles.

The film has some beautiful cinematography by Jay Oza and some soothing music by Amit Trivedi. The film also touches upon some important topics like mental health, infidelity and family issues. However, given the current situation of the pandemic and the high budget of the film, it was a risky proposition for the makers to release it on the big screen.

Therefore, we can say that Gehraiyaan is a flop on OTT and a below-average film overall. It is a film that might appeal to some niche audience who like romantic dramas with urban settings and themes, but it is not a film that will be remembered for long or make a lasting impact on the viewers. It is a film that could have been much better if it had more depth, originality and entertainment value.
